Some decisions in business require an "all in" mentality. You assess the opportunities. You size up the competition. You size up the necessary resources. Then, you buy-in big time both literally and figuratively.
The present economy has caused its share of stress, but it has forced businesses to identify frivolous costs, inefficiencies and other wastes. However, this economy has forced people to think with more singularity of purpose, because usually, that's how the biggest gains are made, presuming you buy-in fully.
The curse of competence has been one of my biggest challenges in business. My staff and I have adequate competence to do just about anything in the www realm, but at times, we have dissipated our energies a little thinly in order to pursue too many opportunities.
Of late, we have narrowed our focus, discovered an essentially untapped market where competition is minimal, and we are stepping forward in a big way. Yes, it is all very "top-secret" right now, but it won't be for long. We are entering a new phase in our business and we are quite excited by the prospects of being first-in... perhaps for the first time.
One of the decisions I have made with regards to this new pursuit is to avoid what I might have done in the past... to test the waters first. Instead, we have thought through the issues and we are diving in.
I'll update this blog when we have emerged through our sequence of implementation steps to give an update. Can't wait!
