BLOGNAME: LOUDER THAN WORDS

An informal, stream-of-consciousness reflection on business ideas, events and issues in modern business, modern life and with some specifics to the web-software industry by Paul Tomori, Internet Entrepreneur

New World Man
He's a signal turning green...

It is with great pride and pleasure that I announce the arrival of the newest family member: Alistair Robert Tomori. He was born today, June 17, 2009 at 5:12 p.m. and is now getting used to his new life outside of the womb. My wife was a trooper throughout the event and we had a stellar team of doctors, nurses and midwives to help bring the baby into the world.

It's funny... when our first son, Graham, was born 2 years ago, my wife requested that the radio be on in the delivery room. The song that was playing right at the moment Graham emerged was Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World", which seemed magically wonderful and fitting. This time around, I suggested that I might secretly fix the dial on 97.7 Htz.fm in the hopes that a good Rush tune would be playing to herald our second son's arrival. However, we all got caught up in the delivery and completely forgot all musical accompaniment. In fact, I didn't even remember about it until shortly afterwards when my wife sent me down the road for a sub sandwich. I took one step in the door of Mr. Submarine and was immediately very pleasantly greeted with the upbeat "New World Man" by Rush. I could only just smile to myself at the happy coincidence (and of course, I air-drummed for a few seconds when the server wasn't looking!).

How fitting a song is that?

He's a rebel and a runner
He's a signal turning green
He's a restless young romantic
Wants to run the big machine

Well little guy... today you were a signal turning green and all systems are go. Whether you actually will be a restless young romantic or a rebel of any sort will be completely up to you. We hope you compose an amazing life story for yourself. In the short-term (relatively speaking of course), we will merely provide you with some basic guidance and hopefully some inspiration about how to live the good life. If you want to run the big machine one day, it's going to take some work, but you can achieve it if you want it bad enough.

Hopefully, in some respects, he'll "learn to match the beat of this old world man"... and hopefully, in other respects, he will simply have to "make his own mistakes and learn to mend the mess he makes".

Thank you again Mr. Peart for your extraordinary facility with words and a tip of the hat to anyone else born on June 17... you are now joined with good company.
